Boca Grandi

Boca Grandi sits on Aruba's windswept southeastern tip near San Nicolas and is the island's go-to wave and high-wind spot, firmly in advanced-rider territory. The reliable easterly trades blow side-on to onshore across the NE, ENE and E window, building from moderate in the morning to a steady 20-25 knots by late afternoon, and the spot delivers wind essentially year-round with only a lighter lull around September to November. The reef-fringed bay produces breaking waves and choppy, powerful water, with bigger swell beyond the reef for those who venture upwind. The sandy beach offers space to rig and launch, typically from the left side of the bay, but it is a wild, undeveloped spot with no facilities, a rough access road and strong currents. Crowds are thin, drawing mostly experienced locals and visiting wave riders. Rocks, current and the exposed reef demand solid skills and strong swimming.
