Caraiva is a car-free, rustic village in the Porto Seguro district of southern Bahia where a river meets the sea, and the kite scene here is young but growing fast each season. The spot has a laid-back, off-grid character and works for everyone from supervised beginners through intermediates and advanced riders, thanks to the protected river-mouth water. Conditions are mixed: the river side offers flatter, calmer water for learning and freestyle, while the open coast brings chop and swell. The wind is the northeastern trades from the NE, ENE and E, which prevail from around September into February and are strongest and most consistent through the spring and early summer months. The sandy beach gives open room to launch and land, but the listed rocks near the river mouth and shoreline are the main thing to track, especially on a shifting tide. Crowds stay light given the remote access, with a small local school by the barra and few other riders sharing the water.
