Pontal de Maracaipe, a few kilometres south of Porto de Galinhas, sits where the river meets the sea and offers a versatile mix that shifts with the tide and season. It works best on the consistent S and SE winds of the winter months from May to September, when the spot becomes a reliable training ground at all levels, while December and January bring less dependable NE breezes. Water state is mixed: flat and friendly at low tide, with a bit of chop at high tide and rideable waves rolling in over the cooler months. The beach has a big, open area for laying out and launching kites and is generally considered safe, though there are rocks and a reef offshore to keep clear of. It draws a mellow, uncrowded crowd compared with bigger Brazilian hubs, with a school or two on hand. Warm year-round water means no wetsuit; best suited to intermediates and up given the rocks and shifting conditions.
