Lanzarote / Los Charcos

NE

Los Charcos sits on the open coast at Costa Teguise and has a reputation as one of Lanzarote's more demanding spots, sharing the water with windsurfers who have long favoured the area. The riding mixes a small flat basin behind a breaker wall with choppier, wave-touched water once you punch out past the reef, so it rewards confident bar control rather than easy cruising. Northeast wind is the working direction here and it blows much of the year, with the most reliable stretch from spring through to early autumn. You launch off a sandy beach, but space is tight and the inside is notoriously gusty close to shore, while exposed rocks and reef turn nasty at low tide. It draws a steady but not packed crowd of experienced locals and visitors. This is an advanced spot best left until the tide gives you water over the rocks.

Lanzarote / Los Pocillos

mixed
NSEW
Wind window
NE

Sitting on the open coast just below Puerto del Carmen near Matagorda, Los Pocillos is an easygoing freeride spot that suits intermediates working on tacks and carving as much as advanced riders chasing the trade-wind days. It performs best in the NE flow that drives the Canary trades, most reliably from April through September with July typically the strongest, gusts permitting. The water is mixed, alternating between flatter sheltered patches and open-coast chop depending on tide and swell. Launch is off a sandy, fairly wide beach with decent room to lay out and land, though the spot shares the shoreline with sunbathers and resort traffic, so it can get busy in summer afternoons. There are no major fixed hazards beyond bathers and other beach users; intermediate ability and basic body-dragging skills are recommended.
