May-Sep

Pozo Izquierdo, on the southeast coast of Gran Canaria, is a world-famous high-wind and wave arena best known as a PWA windsurfing venue, and it rewards confident kiters who like it nuking. The North to NE trade wind funnels and accelerates down the coast, regularly hitting 30 knots and well beyond through the core summer months from roughly May to September, making it one of the windiest reliable spots in Europe. The water is wave-prone and powerful, side-to side-onshore, with a rocky shoreline rather than a soft sandy beach. Launch space is limited and the entry over rock demands care, so this is firmly intermediate-to-advanced territory rather than a learner spot. It draws a hardcore wind crowd of windsurfers and kiters, but the brutal conditions keep numbers down compared with the island's gentler bays; mind the rocks and current.
