Simuni, on the sheltered side of the island of Pag, is a mellow freeride spot favoured for relaxed cruising rather than big waves. Most summer afternoons a thermal Maestral fills the strait between the islands, typically 10-20 knots and milder than the fierce Bora, blowing from the W, WNW and NW sectors and most reliable from June through September. The water is choppy rather than glassy, with large shallow areas that help newer intermediates find their feet. Launch space is good on the sandy beaches of the bays, but note that in July and August a kite ban on the main beach often pushes riders to launch from the next beach downwind of the promontory. This is a busy holiday area in season, with swimmers in the water to watch for, so it best suits intermediate and advanced riders who can stay clear of crowds.
