Camber Sands at Jurys Gap is the busy southeast England classic, a vast flat beach near Rye that draws the London crowd in droves. It comes alive in its working SW, with southerly directions through SE-S-SW all rideable, and the wind statistics are excellent across the April to October season, usable on the large majority of days. Despite the wave-prone open-coast label, the very shallow water reaching 200 metres out and lagoons that form behind the sandbars at certain tides keep things friendly for beginners and progressing intermediates, while advanced riders find chop and small surf when it's pushing. The expansive sands give enormous launch and landing space, though kiting is restricted to the eastern end of the beach. This is arguably the UK's most crowded spot, with up to a couple of hundred kites flying on a sunny windy weekend, plus schools and summer swimmers. Watch the tide carefully, since it's unrideable for a few hours around high water, and respect the lateral current and bathers.
