Kärdla sits on the north coast of Hiiumaa, the laid-back island off Estonia's west coast where wind sports are part of the local rhythm. It's an uncrowded freeride spot with the shallow, sandy character typical of the region, so expect water that runs flat to choppy depending on strength and fetch, comfortable for freeriding and skill-building. The working window is broad but reads cleanest on the side-shore angles around NE or SW, and like the rest of Hiiumaa it favours the prevailing southwesterlies and northerlies through the spring-to-autumn season. The beach offers open, low-obstacle space to lay out and launch, and because Hiiumaa stays off the main tourist track you'll rarely fight for room on the water or the sand. Watch for the offshore component on a SE breeze, and treat the shallow island wind as variable rather than bankable.

Ristna, on the wild western tip of Hiiumaa, is Estonia's closest thing to a wave-riding destination, exposed to open Baltic swell and known for some of the biggest, cleanest waves in the region. Because the headland forms two capes with a bay between them, it handles a huge spread of wind directions from E right round through S and W to NW, with SW being the classic and most usable angle; the strongest, most reliable winds run from mid-August into November. Expect genuine waves and chop rather than flat water, so it favours confident intermediates and advanced riders chasing swell. The beach gives open, natural launch space, but it is remote and exposed, and the main hazard is rocks along the shoreline and in the water. It is rarely crowded, often leaving the lineup to a handful of dedicated locals.

Tahkuna sits on a wind-exposed peninsula at the northern tip of Hiiumaa, a remote island spot prized by Estonian riders for its versatility and some of the biggest swell in the Baltic. The two capes and a sheltered bay between them let it work across an unusually wide band of directions, from SE through to NE and across the whole western sector, with the cleanest side-shore angles on N or S; the SW is the local favourite for its many usable angles. Water state changes with which side you ride, from flatter, more protected bay sections to genuine waves on the open capes, so the spot rewards advanced riders chasing wave riding as much as freeriders. Best winds of 20 to 35 knots arrive from mid-August into November, occasionally far stronger, so it suits experienced kiters who can handle power and cold-water conditions. Launch is on open beach with ample natural space, but the remoteness means few people around and little on-site support, so ride with a buddy.
