Kos / Kefalos

N-NE

Kefalos, on the quieter southwestern tip of Kos, is a relaxed Aegean freeride and freestyle spot known for its dependable summer thermal and a more intimate, less crowded feel than the island's busier bays. It works on the N to NE Meltemi, which builds through the morning and ramps up in the afternoon, blowing side-on shore and most reliably from June to August with wind on the great majority of days. The water sits mostly flat with some choppier sections, ideal for slalom and freestyle, while the lighter morning breeze suits beginners before the afternoon thermal turns it into powered-up freeride. The wide sandy beach gives easy room to set up and launch. Because it is a secluded, smaller beach, it draws fewer riders than the main spots, so the water stays comparatively uncrowded even in peak season. A friendly choice for beginners through advanced who want consistent, warm summer wind.

Kos / Marmari

N, NW

Marmari is the wind magnet of Kos, a lively beach town spot where the summer Meltemi accelerates between two offshore islands to deliver some of the strongest, most reliable breeze in the Dodecanese. The working N to NW directions are exactly the thermal flow that fills in through the morning and tops out in the afternoon, often blowing 15 to 35 knots with better than 90 percent reliability from July through September and good odds either side from May to October. Water is a forgiving mix of flatter inside sections and chop further out, suiting everyone from first-timers to advanced riders chasing speed and air. The sandy beach gives broad, obstacle-free room to rig, launch and land. It gets busy in peak season with schools and holiday traffic, and the main hazard is swimmers near shore, so keep your lines clear and ride downwind of the bathing zone.

Kos / Psalidi

mixed
NSEW
Wind window
NW

Psalidi, just south of Kos Town on the island's northeast coast, has a reputation as the windiest kite spot on Kos thanks to a venturi funnel between Kos and the Turkish mainland. The engine here is the summer Meltemi, a thermal NW wind that blows side-shore almost daily, averaging 15 to 23 knots and typically filling in around noon before dropping at sunset; June to August is high season with wind on 80 to 90 percent of days, and even when other Kos spots go quiet Psalidi often still has pressure. The water is a mix of flat and chop. The launch is an open downwind area used by schools, fine for setting up but shared, and the beach is more pebble and rock than soft sand. It gets busy in peak summer with active centres and lessons running. Rocks are the main hazard, so it leans intermediate to advanced despite the friendly, reliable wind.
