Amiti is a wild, beautiful sandy bay on the northwest coast of Naxos, a wave-and-bump spot favoured by riders who bring their own gear and want space away from the island's busy south. It fires on the summer Meltemi from the north, which on this exposed coast blows hard and reliably through July and August, and often from May into October, regularly 20-30 knots and building through the afternoon. The water is wave-prone rather than flat, with cross to side-shore wind. The open beach gives plenty of room to launch, but it is remote with no school presence, so you are self-reliant out here. It stays uncrowded compared with Mikri Vigla down the coast. Scattered rocks are the main hazard, and the strong wind and waves make it best for intermediates and advanced riders.
