Santa Maria, on the northeastern coast of Paros near Naoussa, is an organised golden-sand beach that doubles as one of the island's gentler kite spots. It works on the summer Meltemi from N and NNW, the reliable etesian wind that powers the Cyclades through July and August, though its sheltered position near the Paros-Naxos channel entrance means it blows a notch or two lighter here than at the island's southern spots. The water is a mix of flat sections and chop, and the moderate, steady wind plus clear shallows make it well suited to beginners and improvers. The wide sandy beach gives plenty of room to set up and launch, with schools and rentals on hand. As a popular swimming beach it draws a young summer crowd in peak season, so the water can be busy; watch for rocks, and give bathers space near shore.
