Sanur on Bali's southeast coast, with Mertasari as the main launch, has a relaxed tropical character and a split personality: a protected reef creates flat, cruisy water inside the lagoon while the reef edge serves up everything from small waves to serious wave-riding for the bold. It blows best on E wind, reliably through the trade season from around June to September, typically delivering moderate 15 to 20 knot days, so come prepared with bigger kites. The water is mixed flat and chop inside, turning to proper waves out on the reef. The sandy beach gives room to rig and launch, but timing matters around the reef and tide. It is a known spot with schools operating, so expect company at peak times without it feeling overrun. The main hazard is rocks and exposed reef, especially at lower tide, so it suits beginners on the flats and intermediates to advanced riders venturing toward the waves.

On Lombok's quieter southwest around Sekotong, this is a laid-back, off-the-beaten-track spot for riders who like exploring uncrowded water away from the busier Indonesian scenes. It works on SE and W winds, with the dry-season southeast trades from roughly May to September the most dependable, typically blowing in the mid-teens to mid-twenties knots. The water is a mix of flatter inshore stretches and chop, manageable for steady cruising and progression. Launch is off a sandy beach with room to set up, though local terrain means you should scout your entry and exit. Crowds are minimal here, with little organized kite infrastructure compared to Lombok's southern bays, so self-sufficiency helps. The main hazard is rocks, so check the water carefully on arrival; conditions can suit beginners on the flatter days while still keeping intermediates and advanced riders happy.
