Gili Trawangan
Gili Trawangan, off northwest Lombok, is a beautiful but demanding kite spot that suits only experienced riders. Conditions are tricky: winds are often light and inconsistent, blowing best from the SE, and the water is a mix of flat patches and chop. The real challenge is the strong tidal current racing north-south between the islands, which combined with weak wind can make relaunching difficult or impossible, so this is firmly not a beginner location. The most viable launch is the narrow beach south of the main resort strip when the wind sits SSE to SE, but space is tight and the southern tip hides a shallow coral shelf you do not want to fall onto. There's little organised kite infrastructure here, so it's quiet but unsupervised. Check tides and current with local dive shops, always keep an island downwind, and watch the rocks and current closely.
