Pontechianale (Lago di Pontechianale)
High in the Piedmont Alps near Cuneo, Lago di Pontechianale is a striking alpine reservoir that rewards riders who enjoy a mountain setting and genuinely flat water. It runs on a thermal that typically fills from the E and ESE on sunny days, building reliably through the warmer months, though as with most high-mountain spots the breeze can be fickle and weather-dependent. The water is mostly flat, making it a treat for freeride and freestyle sessions and easy carving. Launch is off a sandy shoreline with straightforward access and no awkward obstacles, and the spot has food and rescue cover on hand. Crowds stay low here compared to the big lakes like Garda or Como, so you'll often have space to spread out. With no major listed hazards, it's pitched at intermediates and up, with the gusty alpine air and altitude best handled by riders with some experience.
