Stagnone Kitesurf (Lo Stagnone)
Lo Stagnone, the shallow lagoon near Marsala in western Sicily, is one of Europe's premier flat-water and learning destinations, a waist-deep, mirror-flat basin sheltered between low islands that is ideal for first lessons and flat-water freestyle. It works mainly on the N and SSE breezes that funnel through the lagoon, with summer thermals of 15 to 20-plus knots building from late morning and peaking through the afternoon between roughly March and November. The water stays flat and the bottom shallow, rarely over knee-to-waist deep. Schools cluster around Birgi with large, sandy and grassy launching and landing areas, so beginners have plenty of room. The lagoon swarms with lesson students on summer days, but it is big enough to find your own space once you launch. Suits all levels, beginners especially.
