Anse la Raie

mixed
NSEW
Wind window
SE

Anse la Raie, just south of Cap Malheureux at the northern tip of Mauritius, is a versatile, postcard-pretty lagoon spot that suits a wide spread of riders. Inside the reef you get a shallow, near-flat basin perfect for learning and freestyle, while passing the rocks and islets opens a huge freeride area of flat water with occasional chop, hence its mixed water character, plus moderate waves further offshore. The reliable SE trade winds drive it, blowing roughly 14-25 knots and most steady from May through October. The sandy beach gives a good launch, and the open lagoon offers acres of riding room. Schools cluster here and it can get busy in season, though the space absorbs the traffic well. Mind the rocks, abrasive coral and shallow patches, especially at low tide, and wear booties; supervised conditions suit beginners while intermediates and advanced riders thrive.

Bel Ombre

mixed
NSEW
Wind window
SE

On the green southwest coast of Mauritius, Bel Ombre pairs a spacious turquoise lagoon with a wave zone out on the reef, making it a versatile spot that rewards confident intermediates and advanced riders who can handle both. It runs on the steady SE trade winds, blowing most reliably from June through October at a friendly 12 to 20 knots, and a useful thermal effect can light it up when other spots go quiet. Inside the reef the water is flat and protected, sandy near shore then turning to seagrass and scattered coral patches further out; beyond the reef you'll find proper waves. The sandy beach gives a clean launch, though the lagoon is shallow and the coral and reef demand respect. It stays relatively uncrowded compared with Le Morne, with schools and a kite centre on hand. Mind the rocks, coral and current near the reef passes.

Le Morne Kitebeach

mixed
NSEW
Wind window
SE

Le Morne is Mauritius's flagship kite destination, a world-class spot beneath its dramatic basalt mountain that caters to everyone from first-timers to wave chargers. A huge reef-protected lagoon offers flat, warm, waist-deep water ideal for freeride, freestyle and foiling, while advanced riders cross to legendary reef waves like One Eye further out, matching the mixed flat-and-chop profile. It runs on the steady SE trade winds, most reliable through the southern-hemisphere winter from roughly May to November when 15-25 knot days are the norm. The sandy beach gives generous space to lay out and launch, though low tide can expose rocks across the lagoon, so watch depth and follow the sandy channels. As the region's most popular spot it gets busy with schools, downwinders and holiday riders, especially mid-season. The reef and exposed rocks at low water are the main hazards.
