Cozumel / Playa Bonita
Playa Bonita lies on the wilder windward side of Cozumel, an open Caribbean coast where rock formations, coral and pockets of sand frame a genuine wave spot rather than a flat-water cruise. Swell can build sizeable here, occasionally well overhead, so the riding leans toward wave and strapless play for those with the skills to handle spaced sets and a reef-strewn shoreline. The trade winds work best from N, E and S, with the most reliable, constant breeze arriving from December through April when north and east winds set in, typically averaging 15 to 20 knots and ramping up when a cold front or nearby system passes. Launch space exists across the open sandy areas, but the rock and reef sections mean you should pick your spot carefully and avoid the formations on launch and landing. It is a quieter, more committing corner of the island and not heavily schooled, so you will not find big crowds. Best for intermediate and advanced riders comfortable in waves over reef.
