Punta San Carlos
Punta San Carlos is a remote, wave-riding pilgrimage on the Pacific coast of Baja, prized as one of the best right-hand point breaks anywhere for kiting. It runs on its own microclimate, the working NW wind blowing cross-offshore down the point to groom long, peeling walls; reliability is outstanding from spring through autumn, with March to May the strongest at 25 to 40 knots, summer easing to 25 to 35, and a softer 18 to 25 in the back end of the season. The water is all about clean Pacific swell, lighter in the morning for surf and building through the afternoon, which makes it firmly intermediate-to-advanced terrain. Launch is from the open desert shoreline with plenty of space but no manicured beach, so rig carefully. It's a camp-based, low-crowd destination rather than a school beach, so expect a small dedicated crew. The main hazard is rocks along the point, so know your exit before you commit.
