La Ventana is a Baja winter classic, an L-shaped bay offering over twenty kilometres of beach and one of the most reliable wind machines in the region. The prevailing northerlies, working in N, NW and NNW, are accelerated by Cerralvo Island and topped up by midday thermals, blowing most days from mid-October into April with the strongest, steadiest wind from November to March; powerful El Norte fronts can push it well into the thirties. The water is generally wave-prone and choppy, with cross-shore wind in the north of the strip making the El Sargento end a natural downwind start. There is abundant sandy beach for launching and rigging, and dedicated school zones nearer the campground give beginners room to learn. It can get busy in peak season with a strong school and snowbird scene; mind the rocks, and most days suit everything from first lessons to advanced freeride.
