Velika Plaza, or Long Beach, is a 13km ribbon of sand near the Bojana river mouth at Ulcinj and Montenegro's premier kite spot, known as a safe, beginner-friendly beach with no reefs, rocks or strong currents to worry about. It is an easy freeride and freestyle venue with flatter, shallow water close to shore giving way to light chop and small waves further out. The spot runs on a reliable summer thermal, the maestral, which typically builds to 15-25 knots on sunny afternoons through the May-to-September season; mornings can start offshore from the NE before the W sea breeze swings side-onshore after midday. The enormous open beach offers as much room to rig, launch and land as you could want, with shallow standing water for the first stretch out. Several kite schools work the beach, so it draws a steady summer crowd of learners and freeriders, though the sheer length keeps it from ever feeling cramped.
