Wijk aan Zee Noordpier is one of the better wave spots on the Dutch coast, popular largely because it is so close to Amsterdam, and it draws everyone from improvers to wave-hungry advanced riders. It works best in SW wind, with autumn and spring delivering the most usable conditions and winter the strongest, while summer thermals are weak and unreliable. The water is wave-prone, ranging from peaky windswell breakers to cleaner sets of up to a few metres in big winds, with irregular sandbars shaping the surf. The sandy beach gives plenty of launch and landing room, and the pier itself offers some shelter from current and waves in southwesterly conditions. It gets crowded on the best days, and access is restricted to the area right of the marker pole by the beach restaurant between May and September. Mind the rocky pier, currents and shifting sandbars; solid intermediate-plus skills help in the waves.

Zandvoort is one of the Netherlands' classic North Sea kite beaches, a big sandy strip beside the famous resort town and a regular stage for the Red Bull Megaloop when it is nuking. It works on winds from the SW through NW, and the strongest, most reliable wind comes in the autumn and spring shoulder seasons, September and October especially, while July and August are often light or spoiled by easterlies. Offshore sandbanks create a mix of flat patches and waves, so conditions range from smooth gliding to challenging chop. The wide beach has ample room to launch, with two official kite zones at the north and south ends. It gets busy in season, the water is cold enough for a wetsuit year-round, and you should watch for rip currents and swimmers. Suits beginners through advanced depending on the day.
