Orewa Beach

mixed
NSEW
Wind window
NE-E

Orewa Beach, a long sandy stretch just half an hour north of central Auckland, is a convenient, easygoing kite spot and beach break that doubles as a popular swimming and family beach. The water is mixed, generally flat to choppy but capable of delivering a proper beach break when easterly cyclone swell arrives. Wind works on NE, ENE and E directions, with the most consistent breezes through the spring-to-autumn months. Launch from the dedicated windsurf and kite area off Humphries Drive, using the large paddock at the end of the car park, with parking, grass, showers and toilets making it well set up; learners head upwind toward Sandy Point. The main hazard is people: keep clear of swimmers and never ride between the surf lifesaving flags. Best for intermediate and advanced riders given the shared beach and shifting conditions.
