Mancora

S-WSW

Mancora, on Peru's sunny far-northern coast, is a warm, wave-oriented spot with a long sandy beach and a steady, hot, dry climate that draws surfers and kiters alike. The riding is wave-prone, with a long beach break and a point in front of the hotels that shapes a clean, rolling wave, mostly under side-on to side-off wind. The breeze comes from the S, SSW, SW and WSW, typically filling in around midday and dropping by late afternoon, running 15-25 knots through a long May-to-January season with October to December the most reliable. The long beach offers good room to launch and land, but watch the hazards stored here: cobble and rocks at the point that get exposed and grab fins at low tide, anchored fishing boats and nets, and surfers and swimmers sharing the lineup. Respect right of way and ride here with some wave experience.

Vichayito

S-SW

Vichayito is a long ribbon of pure sand on Peru's sunny north shore between Los Organos and Las Pocitas, with a mellow, downwind-friendly character and warm, reliable conditions. It works on S, SSW and SW wind, which arrives as steady, dependable side-on flow through the long season from roughly late May to December, building through the day and most consistent from June to September at around 15 to 25 knots. The water is wave-prone open coast, with year-round swells giving the surf-flavoured riding that defines this stretch. The huge, virtually empty beach offers exceptional room to launch and land with few obstacles, making it a natural choice for lessons and long downwinders toward Mancora and El Nuro. Crowding is low across this wide expanse, so you rarely feel boxed in. With its forgiving space and side-on wind it suits beginners and freestyle, while the waves keep intermediates and advanced riders entertained.
