Clifton Harbour on Union Island is the kitesurfing hub of the Grenadines, a postcard Caribbean lagoon ringed by reef just south of the airstrip. The lagoon inside the reef is ultra-flat and shallow, mixed smooth and lightly choppy, making it a dream for freestyle, speed and first sessions, while the reef itself throws up a tidy left-hand wave for those wanting more. Wind is the dependable easterly trade, generally ENE, blowing 15 to 25 knots with remarkable consistency from November through July and a sweet spot from December to June, so a windless day is rare. Launch is from a small sandy beach, compact but workable. This is the busiest spot in the Grenadines, though that still means only a handful of riders on the water plus the local school. Mind the reefs, boats and other kiters in the harbour; the flat shallows welcome beginners while the reef wave and boat traffic call for awareness from everyone.
