Just half an hour from Glasgow, Troon South Beach is the heart of one of Scotland's busiest kite communities, a welcoming sandy stretch beside the marina that works for everyone from first-timers to wave hunters. It comes alive on the prevailing southwesterly, which is both the most reliable direction and the one that builds the best waves, with the wider Troon setup tolerating anything from south through to northwest. Conditions shift with the tide: gradual, choppy water with rideable waves further out when it's up, flattening off at low tide for easier sessions. The beach offers good launch space, though at high tide the sand narrows considerably, so keep an eye on the clock. It can get busy with both kiters and summer tourists, so stay vigilant on a packed beach. Black rocks toward Prestwick sit well upwind, leaving this open to beginners through advanced riders.
