Los Canos de Meca

SE, NW

Los Canos de Meca, tucked below the Trafalgar lighthouse on the Cadiz coast near Tarifa, is a scenic wave spot that comes alive precisely when Tarifa is overpowered. It is wave-prone: SE Levante pushes clean rollers that can reach up to 3 m into the bay, offering some of Andalucia's best wave riding, while NW Poniente leaves it flatter and calmer. The spot typically runs a couple of Beaufort lighter than Tarifa, making Levante days the draw. Launch on the sandy section near the lighthouse where there is more open space and fewer obstacles. It stays noticeably quieter than the Tarifa beaches, drawing mainly wave-focused riders who slip over here when the main spots are maxed out, so the lineup rarely feels crowded. The key hazard is rock: a reef and rocky bottom that surface at low tide, especially the formation on the west side near the lighthouse path, which beginners should avoid entirely. Best suited to intermediate and advanced riders comfortable in waves and tides.
