Barbate

Barbate sits up the coast from Tarifa toward Cadiz, an open Atlantic beach with a more laid-back, local feel than the Tarifa circus and a riding style that swings between freeride blasting and the occasional wave. The two reliable engines are the easterly Levante, which blows offshore, strong and dry, and the westerly Poniente, which comes side-on and is gentler and more forgiving; both are most consistent from roughly May through October, with Levante dominating the hot midsummer months. The water is mixed here, flatter close to shore and choppier as the breeze builds, so it suits intermediates working on transitions and advanced riders chasing power. The long sandy beach gives generous, obstacle-free room to lay out lines and self-launch. Crowds pick up in the warm season, especially summer weekends, and you will share the water with swimmers near the busier stretches, so keep clear of the bathing zones and respect right of way. Watch the offshore Levante if you are still building skills.
