Los Alamos

waves
NSEW
Wind window
E, S, SSW

Los Alamos sits on a long, open stretch of Costa del Sol sand just north of Torremolinos, an easygoing, urban-feeling beach break that draws a mix of locals and holidaymakers rather than a hardcore crew. It is a wave-prone, open-coast spot, so expect chop and breaking swell rather than glass, which suits intermediates working on riding in moving water more than first-timers. The wind is best on E in the cooler months and swings to S and SSW side-shore through roughly April to October, with the most reliable thermal days from May to September in the 15 to 25 knot range. The beach is wide with plenty of room to rig and launch, and an official kite zone marked by yellow buoys keeps you clear of swimmers. It gets busy in high summer, so walk north behind the buoys and stay well out of the bathing area. Main hazards are crowds and the swimmer zone, so pick clean lines on launch and landing.
