Zanzibar / Breezes Beach
Breezes Beach sits on the quiet Dongwe stretch of Zanzibar's east coast, a more exclusive and serene alternative to the busy Paje scene, with a sheltered lagoon that rewards smooth cruising, freeride and foiling. The water is mixed, butter-flat and shallow inside the reef at the right tide and choppier as the breeze fills in, and it drains dramatically with the big tidal swings typical of the island. Two trade-wind seasons drive it: the southeasterly Kusi from June to October, strongest in July and August at a punchy 18 to 22 knots, and the gentler northeasterly Kaskazi from December to mid-March at 14 to 18 knots, ideal for learning. The sandy beach gives easy, spacious launching, and the lagoon stays quiet and uncrowded compared with the island's hotspots. The main hazards are exposed coral and rocks at low tide, so wear boots and time sessions to the tide. Suitable across all levels with appropriate caution.
