Hua Hin

Hua Hin is Thailand's best-known and busiest kite destination, a long resort beach on the Gulf of Thailand about two hours south of Bangkok. The vibe is mellow and learner-friendly thanks to a gently shelving, wave-prone coastline, though it can serve up enough swell to keep more advanced riders interested. The northeast monsoon drives the main season from roughly October to May, with the most dependable 15-to-25-knot wind from December to March, after which afternoon thermals take over into May; southeast thermals add to the mix. The beach stretches several kilometres of sand, giving loads of launch room at low water, though high tide from around November to March can swallow the sand and shrink your launch corridor. With many schools along the front it gets genuinely crowded in peak season. The chief hazard is swimmers and beach traffic, so keep clear zones and stay aware in the busy stretches.

Pak Nam Pran Buri Beach (Pranburi)

mixed
NSEW
Wind window
NE-E

About 20 km south of Hua Hin, Pak Nam Pran Buri stretches along some 7 km of open coast and ranks among Thailand's most consistent spots, working for everyone from first-timers to advanced riders. The water is mixed, with flatter sheltered patches and exposed sandbanks near the river mouth giving way to chop further out, particularly tidy from February to June. It works across a broad wind window from NE through E to S: the NE monsoon powers reliable 15-25 knot days from roughly November to March, while the warm thermic S wind from February to May builds through the afternoon for steady sunset sessions. The long, sandy beach gives huge room to launch and land with few obstacles, a big part of its beginner appeal. Schools cluster here and it can feel busy in peak season, but the sheer length of beach spreads everyone out. Hazards are minimal beyond exposed sandbars at low tide and other traffic; suitable for all levels.
