Isla Coche, a short boat hop south of El Yaque off Venezuela's Margarita coast, is a renowned flat-water freestyle playground prized for its glassy lagoon and incredibly steady trade wind. The wind comes consistently from the ENE and E and is lighter than neighbouring El Yaque, leaving the shallow water of the Las Salinas area clinically flat and ideal for unhooked tricks and big air in the stronger afternoons. The best months are spring, roughly March to June, with warm air and water year-round meaning no wetsuit. The beach is open sand with easy room to rig and launch, and the island stays famously uncrowded compared with the mainland spots. One important caveat: the wind has an offshore component here, so a self-rescue can mean waiting for a water taxi. That makes it best for confident intermediates and above rather than true beginners.
