Wissant
Tucked into a wide bay on France's Opal Coast between two capes, Wissant is a wave and freeride spot with a raw North Sea feel and a generous sweep of sand. It works best in the prevailing SW, which the channel funnels and reinforces, while NE delivers cleaner cross-shore conditions; wind is consistent through the cooler October to February window and shows up regularly year-round. Expect a genuine wave state with shorebreak and swell, so committed intermediates and advanced riders get the most out of it, though the broad beach is welcoming for progression on the right tide. The huge sandy strand offers acres of room to launch and land with few obstacles, and a marked kite zone separates riders from swimmers in summer. Crowds stay moderate outside peak weekends. The main thing to respect is the strong tidal current on the ebb, which can run hard and make staying upwind a real fight, so a wetsuit and decent power are essential.
