Etang de La Palme is a big, shallow saltwater lagoon just north of Leucate, a classic learner-friendly flatwater playground that also suits freestylers chasing smooth water. The dominant wind is the Tramontane out of the NW, which blows an extraordinary share of the year and can reach 30-40 knots; it's powerful but notoriously gusty coming off the land, so rig conservatively and expect lulls and surges. A SE seabreeze fills in on calmer days. Water sits knee- to waist-deep and stays mostly flat near shore with manageable chop further out. The sandy beach gives generous room to launch and land, though the bottom hides shells and rocky patches, so booties are wise and many riders prefer to launch in the water. It gets busy in spring and autumn with schools and freeriders; the shallow, forgiving layout makes it fine for beginners, with the gusts the main thing to respect.

Les Dosses, on the Étang de Leucate lagoon near Le Barcarès on France's Mediterranean coast, is a world-class flat-water and big-air arena that has hosted top freestyle and megaloop events. A long upwind sandbank shelters the bay, so when the Tramontane fills in the water goes ultra-flat, ideal for hooked tricks and huge jumps, while it can turn choppy in other conditions. The dominant Tramontane blows from the NW and is strong, often 25 to 35 knots and gusty, with a NW or SE working window; it's most reliable through the cooler, windier half of the year and can be relentless in winter. The sandy beach in front of the station has good room to rig and launch plus a large shallow walkable area. As a contest venue it draws freestylers and big-air crews on strong Tramontane days, but the wide bay spreads everyone out so it rarely feels cramped. This is firmly a spot for confident riders: the NW wind has an offshore edge, gusts shift fast, and the nearby cable-ski park and rocks demand solid upwind and self-rescue skills.
